at PdC-WS meet

The athletes and fans of the River Valley and Prairie du Chien/Wauzeka-Steuben wrestling teams combined to bring out the best in high school sports for a heartwarming moment directly after the dual meet in the Prairie du Chien gym last Thursday night.
“The place blew up, both sides,” said PdC-WS 160-pounder Gunnar Kravchuk about his match with a mentally challenged River Valley opponent. “The people were really excited.”
Gunnar, a junior, said that he was pinned in the second period, which elicited cheers from all fans and both teams as the jubilant winner jumped up and was surrounded by his enthusiastic teammates.
“He was really excited, ecstatic,” said Gunnar about the River Valley wrestler.
Gunnar noted that his teammate on the PdC-WS squad Reese Dressler was pinned in the first period by the same young man at last year’s away meet.
“It was special. It made my night,” said Gunnar about his role in the show of good sportsmanship by the wrestlers, their coaches, their teammates, and all of the fans.
