Ghouls' and Goblins' Night Out will take place this Thursday, Oct. 20, from 5-7 p.m. at the shops in Guttenberg. The sixth annual event gives adults the opportunity to celebrate Halloween and support Guttenberg businesses.

Merchants and shoppers are encouraged to dress in costume. Participating businesses are offering spooky sales, deadly discounts at participating restaurants, devilish door prizes, and cauldrons of complimentary refreshments while shopping.

Garments & Goods will offer 35 percent off all Halloween wood products and Halloween wreaths, giving shoppers an opportunity to pick up last-minute seasonal decorations before Trick-or-Treaters fill the streets.

Ideal Decorating plans a storewide 20 percent off sale. Esser's Clothing will give away a pink tote with any purchase, as well as 50-75 percent off women's apparel and $3 pink t-shirts.

Guttenberg Gallery and Creativity Center will feature half-off house pottery and 20 percent off house-made warm glass pieces for the evening. Divine Current Massage will be in the gallery offering petrified paraffin hand waxes for $15, including a spiritual card reading.

PromiseLand Winery will offer a wine tasting at Sodes Green Acre Cafe and Country Market, and Sodes will also give 50 percent discounts on all Halloween items.

Blooming Branches, Roots, and The Handsome Hound will also be open for Ghouls' and Goblins' Night Out, featuring door prizes, treats and drinks.

Brown's Sales and Leasing will feature hauntingly delicious Halloween treats, 20 percent discounts on U.S. Cellular accessories, and devilish door prizes. Visitors to Community Savings Bank will get a special treat, and ATM users will get something extra.

A petrifying poker run will lead shoppers through participating businesses, and will end with a prize awarded to the best five-card hand at Kaffee 1858 at 7 p.m. The Kaffee will also feature drink and food specials, as well as a drawing for a gift certificate.

Trunk-or-Treat

Parents and Halloween-spirited community members are reminded to plan ahead for Trunk-or-Treat at the Clayton Ridge Elementary School playground on Monday, Oct. 31, from 5-7 p.m.

What's a trunk-or-treat? Think tailgating combined with traditional trick-or-treating. "During a Trunk-or-Treat, people gather in a large lot to park their cars, open their decorated trunks (or pick-up truck beds), and pass out candy to young trick-or-treaters. Trunk-or-Treats are a growing trend, because they provide a safe, family-oriented environment, and are a fun way to get involved in trick-or-treating if you live in a neighborhood that doesn't get a lot of Halloween traffic," said Chamber  of Commerce director Emily Sadewasser.

Teens and adults can also use the opportunity to get in on the Halloween fun, dressing up on a theme to match their trunks. Children's books, games, or movies make great themes, and even classic cars can get in on the fun. Those decorating trunks should RSVP to the Chamber at 563-252-2323. Trunk-or-treaters will get to vote for their favorite trunk.
