The St. Olaf Tavern was the recipient of this year’s Restaurant Award presented by the Clayton County Pork Producers at their banquet held September 30 in Elkader..

Owners Lisa and Randy Lenth, took over operations on December 1, 2015. They continue the establishment’s long-held reputation of serving a famous breaded pork tenderloin but changed the emphasis from “world’s largest” to focus on quality, freshness and taste.

They purchase, on average, 200 pounds of fresh pork loins a week. Prepartion includes cutting, tenderizing, hand-breading and seasoning the loins into the great-tasting sandwich served today.

A new appetizer, “Pork Squealers,” is the  result of using the trimmings from the tenderloin. The deep-fried pieces of pork are served with your choice of sauce. One choice is a new homemade apple barbeque sauce.

The St. Olaf Tavern also serves approximately 20 pounds of bacon weekly. Bacon is used primarily for another customer favorite, their half-pound bacon cheeseburger.

The Lenths have also incorporated  local “Our Farm Meats” shaved ham in many of their daily special sandwiches. The delicious sandwich size ranges from the “Big One” at 16-ounces to a four-ounce mini, served grilled or deep-fat fried.

St. Olaf Tavern is open seven days a week at 11 a.m. and Sundays from noon – 7 p.m. Check out its Facebook page for menu specials and events.
