Terry Burrington, formerly of Prairie du Chien, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Agrace Hospice in Janesville where he had been admitted on Monday.

He was born in Janesville on Sept. 27, 1943, to Wesley and MaryAnn (Abb) Burrington. After graduation from Janesville High School in 1961, he joined the Coast Guard. He spent most of his time on the Great Lakes on the ice breaker Mackinaw. He was selected for public relations duty at the Coast Guard exhibit at the 1965 Worlds Fair in New York.

After the service he had a variety of jobs before following his passion as a radio announcer for WCLO in Janesville. He married Delores on July 24, 1971. They moved to Prairie du Chien in 1976 where Terry became the marketing officer for Prairie City Bank. In 1981, he started his marketing and consulting business, Financial Marketing Corporation, and continued that to the present. He was diagnosed three years ago with melanoma which claimed his body but not his spirit.

He is survived by his wife, Delores; his brother, Kerry (Jan Uncapher), of Sebring, Fla.; his sister, Christie (Steve) Easton, of Jacksonville, Fla.; his uncle, Meredith (Charlotte) Burrington, of Edgerton; nephews Alex Zeyl of Florida, and Kelly Burrington, of Indiana; and a great group of cousins.

He was predeceased in death by his parents; grandparents; mother- and father-in -law, Jim and Ann Dirkse; and his sister-in-law, Mary Dirkse.

Thanks to Dr. O’Maher and the entire oncology staff at SSM Health in Janesville; Dr. Auchter and the radiation staff at SSM Health; the Agrace Hospice staff particularly Sandy and Karen; Attorney Douglas Ley and his staff were a joy to work with and were always helpful. Thanks also to the “coffee crew” at CJ’s; Janet and Carroll Paulson, Ann and Pete Ewing, Diana and Bill Thomas, Rita and Paul Oehrke, Peggy and Scott Sklenar and Bonnie and Joe Sadkowski.

At Terry’s request there will be no services. Instead remember times you shared and celebrate your own life, family and friends.
