Kate Landt

By Audrey Posten, North Iowa Times Editor

Kate Landt has joined Great River Care Center and Turner Pointe Assisted Living as its new assistant administrator.

A native of Garnavillo, Landt currently lives in Colesburg with her husband and four children. She has experience in customer service, CNA and human resources work and as an administrative assistant. Landt most recently worked at the Edgewood Convalescent Home.

“I’m passionate about what I do,” she shared. “Being in long-term care, I find it very rewarding.”

Coming from a small community and a small home, Landt said she was attracted to Great River Care Center because of both its size and location.

“I like the small-town atmosphere,” she said. “It’s such a wonderful town that’s lucky to have such a wonderful facility. I want to take it to the next step.”

It’s nice, Landt noted, that Great River Care Center residents who have lived in McGregor, Marquette or Prairie du Chien all their lives can continue to live nearby, close to family and friends.

Through its rehab services with Millennium Therapy, the facility also helps people get back into their homes.

“Nursing homes sometimes get the reputation for being a final stop,” Landt remarked. “People may have had an accident or are going through hard times, but we help them get stronger. A lot of people who come here for rehab go home. It’s amazing.”

Landt said her goals for Great River Care Center include giving back to the community.

“I want to make this a community place,” she said. “People are welcome to come in and meet me and the friendly staff, take a tour and see what we have to offer.”

From Great River Care Center’s award-winning activity programming to the food it serves and the nursing staff who provide care, Landt said the facility offers a compassionate, family-like environment.

“I recently heard a saying that really hits home,” she said. “The residents do not live in our workplace. We work in their home.”

Aside from welcoming people in, Landt hopes residents can also socialize more in the community.

“The residents have given a lot to their communities,” she shared. “I’d like to bring them more into the community, get them doing things. We want them to feel like they have a purpose.”
