A well-respected and active member of the Prairie du Chien community, George E. Sutton, passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, at the Prairie Maison Care Center in Prairie du Chien, at the age of 95. 

George was born on May 1, 1923, in Lynxville, the son of Amos and Amy (Davis) Sutton. 

He married Adeline Chamberlain on June 17, 1944, in Prairie du Chien. He was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. George worked as a real estate broker and, in 1957, he established Sutton Insurance in Prairie du Chien. He was a past school board president and a Shrine member of the Masonic Lodge. George was a hunting and boater safety instructor and active in the Chamber of Commerce, being named Prairie du Chien Businessman of the Year. George and Adeline were an integral part of the local Opportunity Center. 

George is survived by his wife of 74 years, Adeline Sutton of Prairie du Chien; his children, Sharon (Larry) Krause of Stoddard; Betty (Richard) Brown of Prairie du Chien; Bob (Cathy) Sutton of Prairie du Chien; John Sutton of Madison; Linda (Patrick Haley) Steiner of Kansasville; Richard Sutton of Prairie du Chien; Ruth (Kevin) Vorwald of Kenosha; grandchildren, Jeff (Suzy), Jason (Lucinda), Jared (Rachel), Tanya (Jan), Todd (Josee), Adam, Tarah (Aaron), Chelsey (Luis), Amanda (Jason), Alison (Jeff), Erika, Jessica (Ankur), Rebecca (Ryan), Patricia (Dominick), Nicholas, and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Tyler, Cody, Jake, Ella, Josie, Brian, Ethan, Alannah, Austin, Alexander, Matthew, Benjamin, Aston, Annelie, Owen, Westin, Cruz, Emma, Aliya and Reyhan; his brother, Ron (June) Sutton; and a sister, Maxine Sutton; both of Prairie du Chien. 

George was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Douglas and a son-in-law David Steiner.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Pastor Kyle Svennungsen officiating, with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call the church on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in George’s name to the Opportunity Center or St. Peter’s Church Come For Supper Fund.
