Virgie M. Taylor, 92, of Lancaster, passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

 She was born May 11, 1926, in Bloomington, the daughter of Arthur and Hazel (Oates) Chapman. Virgie graduated from Bloomington High School in 1945.

She was united in marriage to Herbert W. Taylor on Sept. 6, 1945. Herb and Virgie raised their family in Lancaster, and operated Taylor Christmas Tree Farm. In 1965, Virgie became a member of the Lancaster Country Club, where she enjoyed socializing, playing in many golf tournaments and winning awards. She was also a member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church, its Ruth’s Circle, and the Red Hatters. Virgie enjoyed bridge club, playing cards, dancing and traveling. 

Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Tina (Joel) Ames; three grandchildren, Brian, Rhonda and Shonda Taylor; three great-grandchildren, Cambry and Lexi Biglow, and Aryanna Taylor; her sister, Mary Ann (Laverne) Crubel; her friend, Harold Sweeney; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to parents and her husband, Herb, Virgie was preceded in death by her daughter, Lucinda “Cindy;” two sons, Greg and David; a brother, Keith (Irene) Chapman; a sister, Marjorie (Eugene) Mergen; and her friend, Lloyd Weigandt.

Funeral services to celebrate Virgie’s life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, at the Lancaster United Methodist Church, with Reverend Mark Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends may call on Saturday, Dec, 22, from 1 p.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Virgie M. Taylor memorial fund has been established. The Martin Schwartz Funeral Home and Crematory of Lancaster is assisting the family.
