Middle schoolers clean up ‘their corner of the world’
By Correne Martin
Three summer school students in Mr. Jim Schilling’s class at Bluff View jumped into flood cleanup action a couple mornings last week. They spent a few hours each day picking up sticks, shoveling mud and blowing debris off the wheelchair ramp at the Cold Springs fishing spot north of Lynxville.
“I wanted them to do this so they understand they can clean up their little corner of the world,” Schilling said.
One student, Aiden, said, he was proud to do his part “so people in wheelchairs can go fishing too.”
These three young men are part of Schilling’s school activities for six weeks of morning classes, Monday through Friday, this summer.
“I also hope people realize this is bigger than a few middle school boys can handle,” the teacher quipped, encouraging others to volunteer their time to pick up such recreational spaces.
