The Mt. Hope Fire Department fought a trailer fire in the village Thursday morning, Nov. 7. According to department officials, the owner had just purchased the trailer and moved his belongings inside but was not actually living there yet. No one was injured and the cause is still unknown. UPDATE Wednesday, Nov. 13, 10:20 a.m.: A trailer house in Mt. Hope is a total loss following a fire last Thursday, Nov. 7.

“We think it was a combination of furnace troubles and an older trailer,” Mt. Hope Fire Chief Rick French shared. “It’s unclear if it was the wiring or furnace that exactly started it. We saw nothing suspicious. The renter reported that he could smell smoke and he opened the door and [the fire] got the oxygen it needed and the trailer became fully engulfed in flames.”

French noted, it took about two and a half hours to get the fire completely extinguished and their work finished.

Patch Grove and Fennimore assisted at the scene.

Currently, donations are being accepted for the owner, who lost all his possessions in the fire, at Reliable Auto Detailing, in Prairie du Chien.
