Jerold J. “Jerry” Matousek, 67, of Prairie du Chien, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019, surrounded by his family at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien. 

He was born on Feb. 6, 1952, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Joseph and Elsie (Perrine) Matousek. He attended and graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1970. He married Judy Zable on Feb. 4, 1978, in St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish. 

Jerry served with a tremendous amount of passion as a Chief Deputy Officer for numerous years with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department. He also was a volunteer on the Prairie du Chien Rescue Squad. He loved farming corn and soy beans as a hobby. Jerry was an avid weather enthusiast that enjoyed monitoring the radar and watching thunderstorms roll in while sitting on the deck he built. He enjoyed motorcycle rides with family members and vacationing in Duluth and South Dakota. Jerry was proud to be one of the first double pancreas and kidney transplant recipients of Wisconsin in 1987, and he had the oldest living dual transplant organs to date in the State of Wisconsin. 

Jerry is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judy of Prairie du Chien; a son Joe of Prairie du Chien; a daughter Becky (Kevin) Potts of La Crosse; a brother Tom (Ingrid) of Onalaska; two grandchildren Mason and Jaxton. 

He is preceded in death by his parents and his infant grandson Jasper Potts.

A Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be Saturday, Nov 23, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish in Prairie du Chien with Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating. Friends may call on Friday, Nov. 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien where a wake scripture will be held at 3:45 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
