Coach Wiley reviews season
Editor’s note: Head Coach Mark Wiley provided the following recap of the girls’basketball season.
Central girls’ basketball team had record-setting season in many ways. The overall record of 21-4 is an impressive feat, but all the time and effort from the players and assistant coaches is why success happened. This year’s team was led by four seniors—Natalie Schroeder, Riley Schroeder, Danielle Weber, and Hannah Erickson—who were all instrumental to the success of the team. All four were reliable and dedicated individuals that brought great work ethic to practice and resiliency in games. All four players are heavily involved in various extracurricular activities at our school, which is reflective of their character.
Juniors who played at the varsity level were Abby Cummer, Madison Sylvester, Nichole White, and Maci Kluesner. All four did things in practice and games to help us be successful. This was the first season for these four athletes at the varsity level and they received their first varsity letter in basketball. All four were great supporters of the team concept, worked hard in practice, and filled roles that don’t often get enough credit.
Delaney Scherf and Haley Frieden were the two freshmen called upon to give the varsity team more depth. With the learning curve of high school basketball, both players grew throughout the season.
We have some talented players, so it is important players aren’t complacent in their preparation for the next season. It’s essential that each player continues to improve on their weaknesses to make the team competitive next season.
