The body of an 18-year-old Waterloo, Iowa, man was recovered  Monday, June 15, at 3:20 p.m., during a dragging operation on the Mississippi River north of Prairie du Chien.

The man is presumed drowned after he was reported to have been seen near the Gordon’s  Bay boat landing on Sunday, June 14 at 3:15 a.m.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office said a group of individuals were camping at a nearby island, when one person from the group attempted to swim from shore to the campsite.

Officials said individuals involved in the camping group called 911 and also attempted to locate the man.

Multiple police, fire, and emergency crews responded to the scene and searched the area by land, water and air.

The case is still under investigation.
