The entrance to St. Feriole Island has been looking very bright and inviting in recent days. According to the Wisconsin DNR, Crawford County is expected to reach its peak in the second week of October. Prairie du Chien was at 95 percent on Oct. 12 and is expected to reach its peak the third week of October. This is a great time to enjoy hiking and birding in the parks. Views from the scenic overlooks as well as many of the trails along the bluffs of the Mississippi River are breathtaking. Area parks include LaRiviere Park, Wyalusing State Park, Pikes Peak State Park and Effigy Mounds National Monument. The area is starting to see some beautiful color. Leaf lookers might want to make it a point to stop by the Travel Wisconsin Welcome Center, conveniently located at 211 S. Main Street, Prairie du Chien, for local, regional and statewide information.
