Gary Brown, 73, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020. 

He grew up in Prairie du Chien, the oldest of  four children. He married Julie Brown in 1993 at the home they built on the bluff of the Mississippi River in Brooklyn Park, Minn. Gary attended UW-Platteville for civil engineering and received a master’s degree in public administration at Hamline. He worked as city engineer or administrator for the cities of Brooklyn Park, Hastings, Worthington and Winona; senior engineer for RLK & Pinnacle Engineering; and also taught young engineers at North Hennepin Community College for 15 years. Gary was the 2020 president of Brooklyn Park Rotary and participated in the Model Trains Club. He was an avid bow hunter, woodworker and birdwatcher.

He is survived by his wife, Julie Brown; stepchildren, Dan and Allison Husman; grandchildren Charlie, Daisy, Stella and Calliope; siblings, Rick Brown and Barbara Baxter; sister-in-law, Monica Brown; and many other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrl and Gladys Brown; and brother, Jeff Brown. 

In lieu of flowers, gifts honoring Gary may be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at gift funds.stjude.org/Gary Brown. A celebration of Gary’s life will take place Monday, Oct. 26 at Leopold’s Mississippi Gardens in Brooklyn Park, from 4 to 7 p.m. A private service will be held at the Basilica of St. Mary.
