Stanley J. Hamann

Stanley J. Hamann, 96, a lifelong resident of Prairie du Chien, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 30, at Prairie Maison. 

Stan served overseas in the U.S. Army during WWII and later returned to become a prominent businessman in Prairie du Chien, operating and later owning Hamann’s Variety Store for 40 years.  In his spare time, he was an avid hunter and fisherman spending countless hours pursuing these pastimes on the Mississippi River.

He is survived by his son Rick (Patty), of Prairie du Chien; his daughter Jan (George) Collins, of Somers, Conn.; his sister Priscilla (Jimmy) Englebright, of Homosassa, Fla.

Elmer G. Colsch

Elmer G. Colsch, 69, of Dodgeville, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, at Upland Hills Hospital in Dodgeville. 

He was born May 15, 1949, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Lawrence “Jack” and Ruth (Paris) Colsch. 

He is survived by his eight children, Brenda (Eric) Palas, Manchester, Iowa, Tammy (Brad) Hill, Spring Green, Kristina Colsch, Farmersburg, Iowa, Stanley (Carrie) Colsch, Garnavillo, Iowa, Jennie Colsch, Portage, Kryssi (Bryan) Streicher, Monona, Iowa, Nicholas Colsch, Portage, and Ami Colsch, Portage; 16 grandchildren: Madeline, Ben, Maurice, Marcus, Jackson, Ronald, Tyson, Kenneth, Kaelyn, Kelsey, Alexis, Izayah, Carter, Avah, Bentley and BreeAnnah; four siblings, Jacqueline Scott of Muscoda, Jerry Colsch, Nashville, Tenn., Barb Knight, Sextonville, and Darrell (Pat) Colsch, Ferryville.

Charlotte E. Kluesner

Charlotte E. Kluesner, 91, of Bloomington, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, at Prairie Maison Nursing Home, Prairie du Chien. 

She was born on Oct. 31, 1926, the daughter of Edward and Magdeline “Lena” (Maiers) Hermsen. Charlotte graduated from Bloomington High School. On Nov. 27, 1947, she was united in marriage to James R. Kluesner, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Bloomington. After their marriage, the couple farmed together in Glen Haven and Bloomington Township. 

Charlotte was the Avon lady for many years. She also worked at Bloomington School District and River Ridge as a Teacher’s Aide. Charlotte was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and its CCW. She enjoyed playing cards,  Bingo, her flower gardens, watching birds, scratch tickets, but especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Terry L. Boebel

Terry L. Boebel, 71, of Prairie du Chien passed away unexpectedly June 26, at her home. 

She was born March 5, 1947, in Darlington, the daughter of Vernon and Bernilda (Quamme) Roth. She grew up near Mt. Zion, and graduated from Boscobel High School. Over the years, she worked at the Boscobel bank, was a hairdresser/salon owner/instructor, sold insurance, had a bed and breakfast, did hotel reception and cooked and baked whatever you requested. She was retired, but was active keeping up with her children’s and grandchildren’s activities.

Marcia G. Mezera

Marcia G. Mezera, 79, of Glen Haven, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, at her home surrounded by her loving family. 

She was born on Jan. 16, 1939, in Bridgeport, the daughter of Gerald and Jacquelyn (Chaney) Hedeman. Marcia graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1957. On Aug. 23, 1958, she was united in marriage with Robert J. “Bob” Mezera at St. John’s Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien. Bob and Marcia lived briefly in Madison, where she was employed at Marshall Dairy Lab. They also lived in the Hazel Green area, then farmed in Bridgeport, and later purchased a farm in Glen Haven. She was also employed as a secretary at the Bloomington Vet Clinic, and then for Ferrellgas Company, from which she retired.

Madonna M. “Donna” Kapinus

Madonna M. “Donna” Kapinus, 78, of Prairie du Chien passed away unexpectedly Monday, June 25, at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse following a brief illness. 

She was born March 29, 1940, in Steuben, the daughter of Forrest and Anna (Messling) Picha. She married Larry Kapinus on Aug. 6, 1960, at St. John’s Church in Prairie du Chien. She and her husband farmed most of their lives in rural Prairie du Chien. She was a great cook and talented baker. Donna was an active member of St. John’s Parish. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother who will be sadly missed by all.

Luther Eugene Lind

Luther Eugene Lind, 76, of Prairie du Chien, died Thursday, June 21, at Crossing Rivers Health Systems. 

He was born Oct. 8, 1941, to Harold and Delilah (Olsen) Lind in Viroqua. Luther graduated from Viroqua High School and University of Wisconsin-Stout with a degree in education. Luther taught school in  Neenah, and also worked at River Town Ironworks in Prairie du Chien.

Luther is survived by his sister, Jenny (Elden) Schroeder, of Onalaska; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Lind, of Janesville, and Karen Lind, of Cashton; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Loretta M. Hamilton,

Loretta M. Hamilton, 86, of Waterloo, and formerly of Fennimore, died on Friday, June 15, 2018, at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. 

Loretta was born on May 21, 1932, in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of James and Gladys (Zabel) Lechnir. She was united in marriage to Willis P. Hamilton on Aug. 20, 1953. They spent 30 years together before Willis’ death in 1983. Loretta spent just shy of 50 years in Fennimore before moving to Waterloo last year to be closer to her children.

David James Armoto

David James Armoto, 76, of Volga, passed away Monday, June 4, at his home in Volga, Iowa. 

He was born March 20, 1942, in Hanover, Ill., to James D. and Iva Mae (Shaw) Armoto. He was baptized in Mt. Sterling. David was united in marriage to Carol Hein on June 17, 1992, in Prairie du Chien. He was a welder and foreman for CBI for approximately 40 years. His job took him all over the world.

Michael E. DeMuth

Michael E. DeMuth, 79, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Tuesday, June 19, at his home. 

He was born Dec. 17, 1938, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Raymond and Martha (Weber) DeMuth. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He married Patricia Harris on June 22, 1963. Mike worked as a mechanic for Lloyd Schneider and later for Lochner’s Service Station in Prairie du Chien.
