Roslyn Lembke

Roslyn Lembke, 95, passed away Monday, April 20, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Roslyn was born January 28, 1920, in Farmersburg Township, daughter of Arthur and Hilma (Schmidt) Ihde. She was baptized and confirmed at Clayton Center. She went to Hope and Mecklenberg school.
She was united in marriage to Lester Lembke on May 9, 1939. The couple farmed Lester’s home place, moving to Elkader in 1994. One daughter, Geraldine, was born to this union.
Roslyn decorated cakes for 35 years – she met a lot of people! She delivered cakes to Dubuque, Manchester, West Union and many more towns. People often called her the “Cake Lady.” She continued to decorate cakes until she retired at the age of 85. Roslyn moved to North Liberty in 2008 to be close to her family.
Roslyn enjoyed playing cards, quilting, gardening and spending time with her family, especially her great-grandson. She was a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include her granddaughter, Richine (Jim) Sartain and great-grandson, Ryan Sartain of North Liberty; a sister, Evelyn Behning of St. Olaf, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; daughter, Geraldine; parents and a brother, Harold Ihde.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2015, at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until service time at the church on Saturday. Interment was at East Side Cemetery, Elkader
