Mary Rosellen (Murray) Peterman, 86, of Elkader, went to be with her Lord on May 4, 2015.  Mary was born on September 15, 1928, in Clermont, Iowa, to Thomas and Madge (Cline) Murray. She attended school in Wadena, Iowa. Mary married Forrest (Pete) Peterman on November 27, 1944, in Elkader, Iowa. To this union four children were born. Mary and Forrest celebrated over 56 years of marriage.

Mary had many fond memories of her adopted town of Elkader, Iowa. After her children were in school, Mary began working at Wilkes Sure Save for over 25 years. Mary and Forrest owned Pete’s Radiator Repair for over 30 years. For recreation they enjoyed camping, visiting relatives and going for little road trips. Mary’s church held a special place in her heart. She enjoyed her fellow believers and the fellowship she had with them over the years. The group’s project of making apple pies for sale resulted in little over 30 pies the first year and grew to almost 700 pies in 2014. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and will be missed by all.

She is survived by her four children, Thomas (Kathy) Peterman of Marion, Cheryl (Peterman-Moser) Neidert of Elkader, Charles (Shirley) Peterman of Elkader, James (Lisa) Peterman, of Monona; six grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; two brothers, John Murray of Almamogorda, NM and Jere Murray (John Ross) of Marengo; one sister, Patricia (Murray) Boland (LeeAnn Landers) of Loveland, CO; many nieces , nephews; special friend and companion Kenny Lemka, of Elkader, and many friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest; parents, Thomas and Madge Murray; step-father, Martin Anderson; sisters, Yvonne Schlee and Shelia Chapman; brothers, Byron Murray and Robert Murray, sons-in-law, Theo VanDerWoudee, Kenny Moser and Moser twin grandsons.

A memorial service was held Saturday, May 9, at 10:30 a.m. at First Congregational Church, Elkader, where there was a visitation one hour before the service. Inurnment will be at Wadena Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The First Congregational Church or a charity of your choice.
