Seneca tops Wauzeka-Steuben
Eric Konichek went 4x4 at the plate, helping the Indians to a 7-2 victory over Wauzeka-Steuben on Monday.
He tripled in the second inning and singled in the first, fourth, and sixth innings.
Gavin Greene kept contact to a minimum, striking out 11 Wauzeka-Steuben batters. Greene allowed two earned runs on five hits and five walks over seven innings.
Jerimiah Huber took the loss for Wauzeka-Steuben. He allowed seven runs in six innings, walked four and struck out seven.
The lead stayed with the Indians after the first, when they scored three runs on a two-run double by Kilian Boland and a groundout by Brady Fernette.
One Wauzeka-Steuben run crossed the plate in the top half of the third, making the score 3-1. An RBI double by Jerimiah Huber gave the Hornets life. Finally, Greene got Brady Krachey to strike out to end the threat.
One run in the top of the sixth helped Wauzeka-Steuben close its deficit to 4-2. A walk by Brad Swatek fueled the Hornets’ comeback. But, Greene got Isaac Byrne to to end the inning.
It didn’t take long for the Indians to answer as they scored three runs of their own in the sixth. The Indians scored on an RBI double by Fernette and a two-run single by Boland.
