Wilbur Schultz
Wilbur Glen Schultz, 96, of Elkader, died Tuesday, May 26, 2015, in Elkader. He was born September 25, 1918, in Giard Township, Clayton County on the home farm, 2 ½ miles north of Farmersburg, to John and Ella Mina (Kuthe) Schultz. Wilbur was baptized on October 11, 1918, and confirmed on August 28, 1932, both at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona. He attended rural schools.
He was united in marriage to Ida Mae VanGorder on April 19, 1944, at Postville Lutheran Church. Three daughters were born to this union. Wilbur farmed for a few years, and then worked at various places; the blacksmith shop in Clermont, drove truck for Duane Hoth, the Elkader Sale Barn, and did janitorial work at Central Hospital and Bethany Lutheran Church. He loved fishing, gardening and ushering at church, however, his favorite pastime was spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Ida Mae of Elkader; two daughters, Patsy (Russ) Belden of Clayton Center and Shirley (Wesley) Vandereide of Elkader; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Diane, in infancy; one sister, Emily Hop; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and a son-in-law.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2015, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkader. Visitation was from 9 a.m. until service time at the church on Monday. Interment was at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Monona.
