Martha Agatha Horstman, 89, of Guttenberg, IA, died Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, IA. She was born on May 17, 1926, in rural Colesburg, IA, the daughter of Robert and Etta (Barnhart) Gull.

Martha attended and graduated from the Colesburg High School in 1944. On April 28, 1945, Martha was united in marriage with Vernon Horstman at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg. This union blessed them with seven children. Though making a home for her husband and seven children was certainly a full-time job, Martha spent many years as the local representative for Stanley Home Products. After working for Stanley, Martha spent several years working for Clayton County Community Action until her retirement. Martha was an excellent cook and baker and will be forever known for making her homemade noodles. She enjoyed playing card games, Bingo and crafts and her true passion was socializing and spending time with her children and grandchildren.    

Martha will be forever loved and cherished by her seven children; Joyce Smith of Marion; June (Hank) Werger of Garnavillo; Janice (Gary) Harbaugh of Westby, WI: Jay Horstman, Hoss Horstman, Julie Rohner and Judith (Dale) Tuecke all of Guttenberg; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one niece; one nephew and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one grandson, Travis Rohner, and four brothers.

Funeral services were held at St. John’s Lutheran Church at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 5, 2015, with Rev. Shane Anderson officiating. Friends called at church after 10 a.m.  Graveside service was at Brown Cemetery, Colesburg, IA, Saturday, September 5, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, IA.
