Jeanette Schuety

Jeannette L. Schuety, 86, of Elkader, died Monday, October 5, 2015, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader. She was born April 16, 1929, in Elkader, to Oscar and Evelyn (Olson) Possehl. Jeannette attended Elkader schools.
She was united in marriage to Aden Hanson in 1946, at Friedens Evangelical Church in Elkader. Three children were born to this union. They later divorced. Jeannette was united in marriage to Ronald Schuety in 1970, at the Ankeny Christian Church.
Jeannette worked as an Account Clerk at AMF Lawn and Garden for nearly 20 years and as an ESL Aide for SE Polk School District for several years. She was Worthy Matron of the Altoona Eastern Star, charter member of the Ful-O-Pep 4-H club and a charter member of the Elkader Rainbow girls. She was an active member of the Sons of Norway and the Democratic Party. She enjoyed playing Scrabble and competed in cribbage tournaments while living near Des Moines. She also enjoyed attending performances at the Opera House. Spending time with grandkids and great-grandkids brought her great joy.
Survivors include her husband, Ron, of Elkader; three daughters, Linda (John) Orr of Elkader, Mary (George) Jones of McGregor and Patricia (Don) Wood of Laramie, WY; 14 grandchildren, Mike (Michelle) Orr, John (Teri) Orr Jr, Tim (Sheri) Orr, Angie (Marcus) Boehm, Dave (Allison) Orr, Brian (Nikki) Orr, Jeremy (Jamie) Orr, Noal Jones, Amy Mezera, Leah (Eric) Strong, Taryn (Steven) Simon, Lydia Wood (special friend, Andy Olivas), Andrea (Andrew) Porter-Merrill, Aden Wood (special friend, Amy Lamborn); 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Francis (Helen) Possehl of Springville; sister-in-law, Margie Larson of Elkader, brother-in-law, Elmer (Sandra) Schuety of St. Olaf; many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Evelyn Possehl; one grandson, Steven Orr, one great-granddaughter, Geneva Orr and one sister, Barbara (Harlan) Sailor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Peace United Church of Christ, Central Community Hospital or St. Croix Hospice.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2015, at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader. Burial followed at East Side Cemetery in Elkader. Visitation was 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2015, at Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader and one hour before service time at the church on Saturday.
