At its regular meeting Oct. 21, the McGregor Council agreed to purchase new holiday decorations— a nine-piece set of life-size Victorian people and a sleigh—for Triangle Park.

The decorations are expected to cost around $2,800, funding for which will partially come from the sale of some city personal property, such as desks, a coat rack and some outdoor equipment, including a mower. The city hopes residents might also be willing to contribute to the fund.

“We’d like to see something nice,” said mayor Harold Brooks, as Triangle Park is one of the focal points of the community.

The city will kick in the remainder of the cost not covered by donations and the sale of the items.

Aside from the Victorian pieces, Triangle Park will also feature several decorated trees.

Council member appointment delayed

The council opted to delay appointing a new council member to replace Joe Collins, whose resignation was accepted last month. Brooks said a number of choices were brought before the council and members should take time to consider the options. A decision will be made at a special meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Winter parking

McGregor’s winter parking regulations will take effect beginning Sunday, Nov. 1, and will run through March 31. Per the regulations, alternate side parking is in effect from 2 to 8 a.m., with vehicles parking on the odd-numbered side of the street on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and on the even side of the street on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
