Seneca jumped out to an early lead on Kickapoo and captured a 9-2 victory on Friday at Seneca High School.
The game was decided quickly as Seneca exerted its will early with five runs in the first three innings.
A sacrifice fly by Gavin Greene in the first inning and a ground out by Mel Halland and an RBI single by Noah Allan during the second inning fueled Seneca’s offense early.
It was a good day at the plate for Seneca’s Brady Fernette. Fernette went 3x4, drove in one and scored two runs. He tripled in the fourth inning and singled in the first and sixth innings.
Allan struck out nine, paving the way for a Seneca win. Allan allowed two earned runs, three hits and two walks over seven innings.
Jalen Alexander ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He allowed nine runs in 3 1/3 innings, walked none and struck out two.
Seneca piled on two more runs in the bottom of the third. The inning got off to a hot start when Jared Payne doubled, scoring Fernette.
Seneca increased its lead with four runs in the fourth. Greene doubled, scoring Allan and Devin Wallin to start the inning. That was followed up by Fernette’s triple, bringing home Greene.
