Niane Meyer, age 64, of Tama, Iowa died Wednesday evening, August 10, 2016 at Hospice of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday, August 15, 2016 at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco where friends may call from 10:00 am until time of services. Burial will follow in St. Kieran Cemetery, rural Cresco, Iowa.

 Niane Marie Meyer was born June 6 1952, the daughter of daughter of Stanley Burdette and Doris Elaine (Watson) Jacobson of rural Cresco. She was a 1970 Graduate of Crestwood High School. Niane attended Upper Iowa College for two years, where she met her future husband. She married John J Meyer on April 8th 1972, in Waverly, Iowa.  They lived in California for four years while her husband finished school.  Two children were born during that time: Chris Ann on November 25, 1972, and John B. on April 20th 1976. They lived in Leland and Jesup prior to moving to Tama where John managed the facilities for Contract Operations of Water and Wastewater, Niane assisted with the bookkeeping.

Niane enjoyed sewing and crocheting. Niane played softball on a team in the Forest City Soft Ball League. In Jesup she was a member of the women’s Jaycees.  She and John enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, seeing Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Tetons, and in Alaska they saw whales feeding. More recently she enjoyed spending time with friends, relatives and especially her five granddaughters.

Niane is survived by her husband, John J. Meyer of Tama, two children: John Burdette (Janeth) Meyer of Marion, Iowa and Chris Ann (Doug) Lange of Dubuque, Iowa; five grandchildren: Rahne McIntire, Skyla Meyer, Grace Ann Lange, Ashley Meyer and Krystal Meyer as well as one brother, Byron Jacobson of Cresco. Niane was preceded in death by her parents.
