Pearl Lamphier-Dunkel March 2, 1943 to June 2, 2018

Pearl Diane West Lamphier-Dunkel, 75, of Strawberry Point passed away June 2, 2018, at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home. Pearl was born March 2, 1943, to Orville and Ruby (Bark) West in Clayton County, Highland Township, Iowa. She graduated from Elkader High School in 1961.

She married Garry Lamphier on July 15, 1961. They made their home in Center Point, Iowa. The couple had two sons.  Opening their home up to the neighborhood children, she was known for her cooking, babysitting, and Friday night pizza. They later divorced. 

She married Ernie Dunkel on July 31, 1982, and one daughter was born to this union. They later divorced.

Pearl worked as a cook at care centers in Center Point and Vinton. She also was a truck driver for 10 years. She liked playing cards and country music. 

Survivors include her children Jarrod (Joanne) Lamphier of Lamont; Kris (Margie) Lamphier of Center Point; Valerie Dunkel of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Kimberly, Dylan, Avery, and Ashley, all of Lamont; James, Jaklyn, Justin, all of Center Point; siblings, Marilyn (Luther) Pugh of Elgin, Gene West of Strawberry Point, Viola Erickson of Elkader, Orville West Jr. of North Liberty; sister-in-law, Arlene West of Farmersburg and brother-in-law, Kenneth Nading of Strawberry Point.

Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Marge Nading, one brother Jerry West, one sister-in-law, Janice West and one brother-in-law, Stanley Erickson.

A visitation was held Thursday, June 7, from 9 a.m. until service time at Grace United Methodist Church in Lamont. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 7, at the church with Rev. Raelonna Patrick officiating. Burial followed at 1:30 p.m., at Long Grove Cemetery, Maynard, IA.
