You may have seen this school bus parked along Marquette Road recently. It’s bringing attention to the need for bus drivers to join the team at Southwest Bus Service.

Southwest Bus Service in Prairie du Chien is seeking school bus drivers for morning, afternoon, substitute and trip routes in the local school district. Anyone age 21 and older with a clean driving record and CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements, or interest in getting these, is invited to apply.

“We have our own in-house training experience that’s custom-fit and tailored to the driver,” said Owner Derrick Boxrucker. “This is kind of one of those jobs where you can tell us what works for your schedule.”

Boxrucker said he’s willing to work with school bus drivers, whether they are available for any shift or only occasionally. Although, trip drivers and morning/afternoon route drivers are currently in need.

“We could always use more drivers,” he said. “We’re flexible and a fun place to work. We’ve put built-in car seats in buses for mothers who want to bring their kids to work with them.”

He noted, some drivers serve for just a couple years, while others make it a part-time career.
