The MFL MarMac girls track and field team had a busy schedule last week, competing at Sumner-Fredericksburg and Clayton Ridge before hosting a home meet.

At Sumner-Fred on April 26, the Bulldogs placed eighth out of nine teams, earning 15 points.

Clare Grau was the top point-earner, placing third and fifth, respectively, in the 1500 and 3000 meter distance runs.

Teammate Kaylee Nuehring was eighth in the 1500 and 10th in the 800. She also ran in the shorter 400 meter event, finishing 14th—not far behind fellow Bulldog Amelya Weigand, who was ninth.

In the sprint events, Sadie Ewing claimed seventh in the 100 meter dash, while Melanie Ruff cruised to the finish line in 12th place. Abby Schellhorn finished 12th in the 200, and Mackenzy Ruff was 17th.

MFL MarMac ran in five relays, the best results coming in the 4x100 and 4x400, where the team was sixth. Schellhorn, Kaylee Walch, Melanie Ruff and Ewing made up the 4x100 squad, while the 4x400 group consisted of Schellhorn, Ayla Gerndt, Weigand and Walch.

Additionally, Melanie Ruff, Ewing, Gerndt and Walch combined to place seventh in the 1600 distance medley and eighth in the 800 sprint medley. In the 4x200, the team of Schellhorn, Gerndt, Mackenzy Ruff and Weigand was ninth.

In the field events, Mackenzy Ruff picked up three points for the Bulldogs. A throw of 27 feet, 1 inch had her fifth in the shot put, and she was seventh in the discus thanks to a distance of 71 feet, 4 inches. The team’s other field competitor was Weigand, who notched a long jump of 12 feet, 9.5 inches to earn sixth place.

On April 27, the girls headed to Clayton Ridge, finishing seventh of eight teams and earning 34 points.

Grau continued her string of success, finishing first in the 3000 and second in the 1500. The Bulldogs’ other distance runner, Nuehring, was 11th in the 800 meter run.

In the 400, Weigand finished the lap around the track in eighth place, followed by Nuehring in the 16th position.

Ewing sprinted her way to 11th in the 100 meter dash, while Melanie Ruff wasn’t far behind in 13th. Schellhorn and Mackenzy Ruff were 12th and 15th, respectively, in the 200.

This time, it was the 4x200 and 1600 distance medley relays where the team did best, placing fourth in both. In addition, the Bulldogs were fifth in both the 4x100 and 4x400.

Ruff turned in two top-five finishes in the field events, placing second in the discus and fifth in the shot put. Emme Schroeder threw her way to 13th in the shot and 16th in the discus. Weigand was seventh in the long jump.

MFL MarMac wrapped up the week at home on April 30. The team scored 30 points at this meet, putting them eighth out of 10 schools.

Grau kept her success going in Monona, winning the 3000 meter run for the second straight meet and coming in ninth in the 1500. Nuehring was 12th in the 1500 and 13th in the 800, while Alexis Ross finished 14th in the 800 and ninth in the 400. Weigand was the Bulldogs’ top 400 runner, earning sixth place.

Ewing had a stellar 100 meter dash, crossing the line second. Melanie Ruff was 11th in the event. In the 200, Schellhorn and Mackenzy Ruff were 10th and 14th, respectively.

In the relays, MFL MarMac had its strongest showing in the 4x100, placing third. The team was fifth in the 1600 distance medley, sixth in both the 800 sprint medley and 4x400, then seventh in the 4x200.

Weigand had the top field performance for the Bulldogs, earning sixth in the long jump. Mackenzy Ruff was seventh in the discus and 12th in the shot put, while Schellhorn was 21st in the shot put and Schroeder was 20th in the discus.
