MFL MarMac boys golfers pick up two conference wins

The MFL MarMac boys golf team picked up two more Upper Iowa Conference wins last week, defeating South Winneshiek and Postville.

 

The Bulldogs played at South Winn on May 3, eking out a 186-191 victory. Gavin Meana shared co-medalist honors with the Warriors’ Brandon Frana after both shot rounds of 45. MFL MarMac’s Braden Landt and Joe Grau each had scores of 46 and were co-runners up.

 

Jonah Wille finished the day with a 49, while Ben Miene shot a 51 and Nick Krambeer a 53. Jaxton Schroeder had a 59, Blake Lamborn a 68, Will Koether a 70 and Collin Henkels a 78.

 

The Bulldogs hit the links again on May 6, at Tri City Golf Club, where they bested Postville 182-219. Krambeer shot a season-best 43 and was the meet medalist. Landt was the runner up with a 44.

 

Meana continued to do well, earning a 45. Miene and Grau both shot 50s, followed by Wille at 53, Koether at 58, Sawyer Keehner at 59 and Henkels at 76.

 

The MFL MarMac girls also played twice last week, beginning with a 241-262 loss at South Winn on May 3. Warrior Sidney Becker shot a 56 and was the meet medalist, while Bulldog Miranda Lang was the runner up with a 57.

 

Other MFL MarMac scores included a 67 from Haylee Guyer, 68 from Rose Grau, 70 from Chylie Feuerhelm and 82 from Mallory Lang.

 

On May 6, the Bulldogs played in a triangular against Central Springs and Postville at Tri City Golf Club. Central Springs won the meet with a score of 227, followed by Postville at 253 and MFL MarMac at 270. Postville’s Kathleen Looney was the medalist after shooting a 50, and Liberti Ewen of Central Springs was the runner up with a 55.

 

With a 59, Miranda Lang had the best round for the Bulldogs. Grau and Feuerhelm had scores of 66 and 67, respectively, while Guyer shot a 78 and Mallory Lang an 83.

 

The Upper Iowa Conference meets were held earlier this week, with the boys playing at South Winn on Monday and the girls at Tri City, near Luana, on Tuesday. The boys will then compete in sectionals at the Guttenberg Golf and Country Club on Friday, May 14. Girls regional action will kick off Monday, May 17, at Lone Pine Country Club, Colesburg.
