The MFL MarMac girls track and field team competed in the Upper Iowa Conference meet at North Fayette Valley on May 6, turning in several season-best times. The Bulldogs totaled 33 points, putting them eighth of nine teams. NFV won the team title with 122.

Senior Mackenzy Ruff was the team’s top point-earner, thanks in large part to a sixth place effort in both the shot put and discus. Her shot throw was 29 feet, 8 inches, while her discus mark was 92 feet, 7 inches.

Amelya Weigand was MFL MarMac’s other field competitor, placing 11th in the long jump with a distance of 13 feet, 2 inches.

Weigand also had a good day on the track, completing the 400 meter dash in 1:10.46—a run that put her fourth. Kaylee Nuehring placed 13th in the event with a time of 1:30.41.

In the 100 meter dash, Sadie Ewing crossed the line at 13.96, in sixth place. Teammate Melanie Ruff wasn’t far behind, placing eighth with a time of 14.60. Abby Schellhorn and Mackenzy Ruff were 11th and 12th, respectively, in the 200 meter dash with times of 33.40 and 35.12.

The distance events were highlighted by a fifth-place finish for Clare Grau in the 3000 meter run. She completed the race in 12:34.15. Nuehring was seventh in the 1500 at 6:38.37, while Ayla Gerndt and Alexis Ross took the respective 10th and 12th spots in the 800. Gerndt finished with a time of 3:02.40, and Ross came in at 3:10.92.

MFL MarMac competed in five relays, placing fifth in two of them, including the 4x100 and 1600 distance medley. The 4x100 group included Schellhorn, Kaylee Walch, Melanie Ruff and Ewing, who ran the relay in 58.13. Melanie Ruff, Ewing, Gerndt and Walch made up the 1600 distance medley team with a time of 5:03.71.

Additionally, the Bulldogs were seventh in the 800 sprint medley, where Walch, Melanie Ruff, Schellhorn and Ewing posted a time of 2:08.39. Mackenzy Ruff, Ross, Gerndt and Weigand ran the 4x200 in 2:14.37, placing eighth, while Walch, Schellhorn, Gerndt and Weigand were eighth in the 4x400 with a time of 4:59.25.

The Bulldogs will be back on the track Thursday, May 13, at the state qualifying meet at Edgewood-Colesburg.
