Duane Charles Tieden, the son of Raymond and Mildred (Gottschalk) Tieden, was born May 26, 1931, on the family farm in Clayton County, and died July 20, 2021, at approximately 6:30 a.m., at the age of 90 years, one month and 24 days, at his home.

Duane lived his entire life in Clayton County. He attended rural school and graduated from Elkader High School. He was a farmer his entire life. He moved to town in November 2020 due to health problems.

On Sept. 2, 1953, he was united in marriage to Margaret Darlene Entwisle in Peace Church, Elkader. She survives. Four children were born to this union.

He was a lifetime farmer, an active outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, arrowhead hunting and mushroom hunting. He was also a very active trap shooter, belonging to teams in Guttenberg, Oelwein, Colesburg and Muscoda, Wis., earning many awards, both team and individual, until his health stopped him. Even though he retired from farming, he continued to help other farmers whenever needed, until health problems precluded him from doing what he wanted to. He loved his garden, flower patch, blackberry patch and hosta bed. He always looked forward to his weekend backroad rides with his daughter. He was very active in making golf ball art dogs in the last few months.

He was a member of the Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church, a member of the Farm Bureau, lifelong member of the National Rifle Association and a prior member of the Amateur Trap Shooters Association (ATA).

He is survived by his wife, Darlene, of 68 years; three children, Dennis (Tae) of Enid, Okla., Dee Ann Koehn of Elkader and Douglas (Mindi) of Moravia; one daughter-in-law, Karen Tieden of Elkader; one sister, Dorothy Brabham of Maine; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and a large number of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Delvin Dale, died July 2, 2019; and one infant sister at birth.

No funeral services will be held. He was cremated and his ashes were spread at an undisclosed location.

Grau Funeral Home was in charge of all service arrangements. Online condolences may be left with www.graufuneralhomes.com.
