The Prairie du Chien Lady Hawk golfers are off to a somewhat hectic but fast start for their 2021 season. The only returning letter winners from last season are senior Allison Kennedy and Marie Achenbach. New to competitive golf are sophomore Ally Wall and freshmen Tessa Higgins, Emma Wall, and Rita Achenbach.

“We are young but determined to get better as the season advances,” said Coach Rick Peterson.

Four of the Lady Hawks began their season on Friday Aug. 13 when they participated in the Reedsburg Invitational at the Reedsburg Country Club. This event drew 40 two-person teams playing in an 18-hole scramble. Allison Kennedy and Emma Wall paired up to shoot a 94 while Tessa Higgins and Ally Wall played together to card a 112.

Prairie’s SWC season opened with a 9-hole mini-meet at Trappers Turn by playing the very challenging Arbor Course on Thursday, Aug. 19. The ladies stayed focused throughout their struggles. Tessa Higgins led the Lady Hawks  with a very nice 55 in her first conference competition. Ally Wall added a 61, Emma Wall 69, Allison Kennedy 74 and Marie Achenbach 82 for a team score of 259. Although the girls were disappointed, they all were able to identify key areas of their golf game they needed to improve on.

On Friday, Aug. 20, the ladies traveled to Darlington Country Club to participate in the 18-hole Ringen Invitational. This 9-hole course presented new challenges for the ladies. Each of Prairie’s players learned about the course on their first nine and improved their scores on the back. Tessa Higgins carded the lowest 18-hole score with a 111, followed closely by Allison Kennedy with a 114. Ally Wall carded a 129, Emma Wall a 125 and Marie Achenbach a 134 for a team score of 470.

Prairie du Chien Country Club hosted the second 9-hole SWC match on Monday, Aug. 23. After heavy rains early, the front nine at Prairie presented its own challenges. Allison Kennedy carded the lowest Lady Hawk score with a 51. Tessa Higgins scored a 65, Emma Wall a 70, Marie Achenbach a 75 and Ally Wall 78 for a team score of 261.

The Prairie du Chien Lady Hawks return to Darlington on Friday, Aug. 27 for their next Southwest Wisconsin Conference event.
