Schellhorn impresses in cross country season debut

The MFL MarMac girls and boys cross country teams competed in one of their largest meets of the season at Jesup on Sept. 28. The girls field included runners from 27 teams, while the boys were one of 30 teams.

 

The Bulldog boys placed 18th overall, led by freshman Jacob Schellhorn. He finished 63rd with a time of 18:55.9, in just his first race of the season. Caleb Nordheim ran the course in 19:35.9, earning him the 91st spot, while Will Koether and Tucker Ruff were 119th and 120th, respectively, with times of 20:09.2 and 20:10. Bobby Kober placed 163rd at 22:02.6, Hunter Kugel was 180th at 26:23 and Reilly Franzen and Dusty Berns turned in respective marks of 29:22.4 and 30:12 to place 185th and 186th.

 

The girls saw their best time from Abby Schellhorn, whose 23:15.2 put her 67th. Clare Grau wasn’t far behind, turning in a time of 23:30.1 to finish 73rd. Kaylee Walch was 130th at 26:46.8, Ruby Koeller 135th at 27:15 and Kaylee Nuehring 141st at 28:09.9.

 

Next up for MFL MarMac is a meet at South Winn on Tuesday, Oct. 5. It’s the team’s last competition before the Oct. 14 Upper Iowa Conference meet.
