Prairie du Chien wrestlers beat River Valley

Thursday night was the SWC opener for the Prairie du Chien wrestling Blackhawks as they played host to their foes from River Valley. The #6 ranked in D2 PDC Hawks would not disappoint, as a raucous crowd was on hand to show their support. It was a big night as the future of Blackhawk wrestling, the youth and middle school, were announced, along with many alumni and all of the great sponsors of the PDC wrestling program.
The dual started at 126# where returning State Qualifier Mason Baumgartner would ignite the crowd with a quick takedown and tilt for near fall points in period one. In period two, Baumgartner would get a reversal with a switch and ride his opponent out. In period three, he would get another takedown with two more nearfall points to score a 10-0 major decision and get the Hawks out to a quick lead.
At 132#, returning State Qualifier Ryder Koenig would keep pushing the pace with three first period takedowns and three near fall points to build a big lead going into the second period. In period two, Koenig would throw his opponent and get the pin much to the delight of the PDC faithful.
At 138#, two time defending State Champ Rhett Koenig would put on a takedown clinic. He scored four in period one, and another in period two with two near fall points. In period three, Koenig would get three more takedowns along with six near fall points to win by technical fall.
At 145#, two time State Qualifier Luke Kramer would be defeated by a solid RV opponent.
At 152#, Kurt Wall was in on a single leg when his opponent fell awkwardly and had to injury default.
At 160#, returning State Placewinner Maddox Cejka quickly pushed the pace on his feet. Unfortunately, as Cejka took a shot his head hit his opponent’s knee and Cejka had to injury default.
At 170#, Cole Halverson received a forfeit.
At 182#, Brogan Brewer would get the crowd amped up once again as he scored a quick takedown and decked his opponent with a first period fall.
At 195#, Blake Thiry would follow suit. Leading in period two, Thiry would win with a second period fall.
At 220#, Ty Wagner blast doubled his way to a major decision. Wagner scored four takedowns in the match.
At 285#, Dylan Wright was defeated by fall.
At 106#, Mason Ihde lost a nail-biter by decision in a back and forth match. The match was tied at the end of period two, but Ihde’s RV opponent would score an escape and reversal in period three for a one-point win.
At 113#, Connor Olson was defeated by fall in period two.
At 120#, Drake Ingham would close the book on River Valley with a very workman-like win. Ingham scored no points in period one, but would storm back with five in period two and five more in period three with near fall points coming two times with tilts.
The final score was PDC 46, RV 25.
Next up for the Hawks will be the annual BiState Classic, hosted by Holmen at the La Crosse Center on Dec. 29 and 30.
