The former Prairie Industries of Prairie du Chien is a local business that has also become a global company.

The Vice President of Business Development, Steve Sena, explained that the Halifax Group acquired a majority ownership of Prairie Industries in September of 2019. Halifax, a Washington, D.C. based private equity firm, merged Sonoco Display Packaging of Europe with Prairie Industries in December of 2020. As a result, Prairie Industries’ name has been changed to Truvant, which means “True Advantage.” New signs have been placed on the former Prairie Industries’ facilities in Prairie du Chien, which now denote “Truvant.”

Truvant is a leading global contract manufacturing and contract packaging provider to many of the world’s top food, consumer, household and industrial brands.

“We are one global company with the same culture,” said Sena. “Our goal is to be the preferred partner for global consumer companies for packaging services.”

“Our core values from the former Prairie Industries remain the same, but we are under a new umbrella,” said Vice President of Operations, Tina Stoeffler. “We are growing our facilities in Prairie du Chien but also nationally and internationally.”

Stoeffler explained that Truvant has a brand new 244,000-square-foot facility in Indianapolis that became operational in April of 2021. Truvant also has a 355,000-square-foot facility in Dallas under construction which will become operational in February of 2022. Stoeffler said these new facilities will help to accommodate continued growth within our diverse customer base.

“We’re continuing to grow as a business as well as investing in surrounding communities and employees,” said Stoeffler, who noted that the Nu-Pak Food Plant in Boscobel has also been rebranded under Truvant.

Truvant has more than 800 employees in Prairie du Chien, Boscobel and Lansing, Iowa. Truvant has more than 5,600 employees globally and operates 16 facilities in four countries.

“We have the capacity in Prairie du Chien for any regional companies that need packaging services work done,” said Sena who noted that the company has come a long way since it began with eight people in 1994.

“We want to be that one-stop shop,” said Stoeffler. “We offer a unique advantageous niche. We can take your product from conception and on into the market place. We can help with designing the packaging to testing the packaging to packaging the product. We source the correct materials for packaging and shipping the product to customers’ distribution centers, or to retail stores.” Stoeffler said Truvant packages hard goods, liquids and food products.

Sena, who joined Truvant in May of 2021, said the Truvant Board of Directors continues to have some familiar local people participating as well as some newcomers. Jim Hutchison, the founder of Prairie Industries, and Jeff Panka, the past president of Prairie Industries and Nu-Pak, remain on the board, which also now includes the former chief purchasing officer of Procter and Gamble and an executive formerly with PepsiCo Inc.

Stoeffler said Truvant’s employees also remain as a vital connection to the community as well as a big reason for the company’s growth and continued success.

“We are proud and thankful of our roots in our communities, as well as our exceptional employees,” said Stoeffler. “We have great customer relationships that we can grow and expand.”
