William J. “Bill” Cody, 80, of Seneca, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021, at Gundersen Health System in LaCrosse. 

He was born Aug. 11, 1941, in Seneca, the son of William J. and Mary L. (Becwar) Cody Sr. He married Marilyn Kramer on Sept. 12, 1964, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Eastman. She preceded him in death on Feb. 5, 1976. He then married Rose Mary Klaus on Aug. 21, 1976, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Sauk City. She preceded him in death on April 4, 2016. He worked for Oscar Mayer starting in Davis, Ill., as a hog buyer in 1964, and then transferred to Sauk City in 1970, and then to the Madison plant. Later in his career, he became a production supervisor of the bologna production line. He bought his first farm in the Seneca area in 1974, and ran a dairy operation from 1978 to 1999, and then from 1999 to 2020, he raised beef cattle. He was proud of his children and grandchildren. 

He is survived by his children, William (Peggy) Cody III of Oregon, Christina Circo of Chandler, Ariz., Carla Cody of LaValle, Brennan (Diana) Cody of Eastman, Jonathan (Laura) Cody of Sauk City, Justin (Shannon) Cody of Owings Md., Andrea (Joe) Ruta of Martinsville N.J., Genevieve Gorman (husband Peter Lee) of Kent Wash., and Christopher Gorman of Sauk City. He is further survived by three sisters, Kathleen (Cliff) Schmitt of Sun Prairie, Mary (Bill) Cummings of Oklahoma, Jane (Jim) Wall of Prairie du Chien; three brothers; Tom (Sandy) Cody of Mt. Sterling, Ed Cody (Janet Skram) and Brian (Martha) Cody, both of Eastman; and 15 grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant brother, Patrick Cody; sister, Linda Hodgson; and a brother, Jim Cody.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Seneca. Father Tom Huff and Father Eugene Wolf will concelebrate.
