Guttenberg was one of eight finalists in the Community Award category in the 2022 Healthy HometownSM  Powered by Wellmark contest, as announced by the Healthiest State Initiative.

A congratulatory letter was recently received by the City of Guttenberg from Laura Jackson, Chief Health Officer of Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

"Many Iowans are unable to live their best lives due to changes in our lifestyles over the past 30 years. Many of our health habits are due to the environment we have unintentionally created for ourselves, where we live, work and play," said Johnson. "Healthy Hometown is about intentionally building small nudges into our surroundings, so the healthy choice is the easy choice for everyone."

"Community health improvement is not easy, but it is incredibly valuable and will pay dividends for your residents long into the future," added Johnson.

Individuals, communities, K-12 schools, early care providers, out-of-school programs, health care providers and workplaces were recognized for their efforts to improve the physical, social and emotional well-being of Iowans in an online ceremony on Feb. 17. This year's winners in the community category were Dallas Center, Iowa Great Lakes Region and Manning.
