Hometown Designs, located at 602 South River Park Drive in Guttenberg, is the newest retail offering to open in the community's growing downtown business district. Owner Andrea Moser is excited to be part of this booming trend.

"I have always wanted to operate my own brick and mortar business and provide for the community," says Moser. "I have been involved with the GEIDC board for some time. I love discussing Guttenberg's business community and all it provides for local residents and visitors to the area."

Hometown Designs

Hometown Designs offers screen printing, which is longer lasting than heat-press transfers, embroidery, apparel, home decor and more. "We can customize clothing in a variety of sizes from infant to adult, including sports apparel, business, leisure wear and novelty items such as koozies," Moser listed. "We can embroidery your design on coats, shirts, hats, blankets and more."

Although the name has changed, the same high-quality service and products will remain. "If you were a customer of GEM (Guttenberg Embroidery and More) in the past, you can still have your items made here," she added with reassurance.

Investing in community

Moser contemplated purchasing GEM when the former owners decided to sell the existing business. "I pondered this for a few months after I learned GEM was for sale," she explained. "I did not want to see the established business go and stop providing for the community. It's in a great location and has endless possibilities and potential. This is my Hometown. I have roots here. I went with my instinct to go after it and make it happen."

A strong belief inspired Moser to take the plunge. "I believe in myself, Guttenberg and Clayton County. I have a strong desire to make Hometown Designs a sustainable business for years to come! Anything is possible as long as you believe it is!" she exclaimed.

AM Painting

The busy entrepreneur, mother of three and owner of AM Painting, will continue to provide indoor and outdoor painting services. "At this time I will continue to run my painting business," Moser told The Press. "In the last couple years the painting business has really picked up and provided for myself and family. I do not want to give this up just yet, as I have established a great foundation and I am thankful for all the business."

Looking ahead and juggling a busy schedule, she added, "If you have a painting project in mind please do not hesitate to contact me as I am still scheduling jobs. Painting is hard work and I am not getting any younger. My long-term goal is to eventually phase out the painting when I am no longer able. At that time I can focus on or expand Hometown Designs."

Strong support

A strong support system encouraged Moser to proceed with her vision. "My family and friends played a huge role in giving me the little extra push I needed to go after what I believed to be achievable. I am fortunate to have a supportive family," she said with gratitude.

Location, location

The Schiller Street project has provided a welcoming backdrop for existing and future businesses. "Hometown Designs' location on the corner of Schiller Street and River Park Drive, and next to so many well-established and new and upcoming businesses is huge," she commented. "The building owners also decided it was time to make some improvements to the interior of the building – new lights, paint, flooring and trim have transformed the interior into a beautiful store with a more modern feel that was so very much needed."

Shop online

Moser has plans to set up online shopping for busy customers. "In the near future we will have a convenient online store set up for purchases. Please keep us in mind for all your business, sports, personal apparel and home decor needs. It is really not necessary to go far and wide when you can find exciting and inspiring things within your hometown!" she said with a smile.
