Cold, rainy weather limited the Central boys track and field team to just one meet last week, in the April 5 Edgewood-Colesburg Invitational.

The Warriors’ best individual finish came in the 1600 meter run, where Gavin Holst was seventh with a time of 5:25.57, earning the team two points.

Evan Schroeder was Central’s top sprinter, placing 10th in the 200 meter dash in 25.38 seconds. Sam Fettkether and Carter Krugger led the Warriors in the 100, going 32nd and 35th, respectively. The 400 meter dash featured Fettkether in 23rd and Vaughn Zittergruen not far behind him in 25th.

In the 110-meter hurdles, Sean Wilwert finished 11th and Dan McGreal was 15th. Brayden Finley was the top Warrior in the 400-meter hurdles, with a 15th place finish, while McGreal crossed the line 19th.

In the relays, the team found some success in the shuttle hurdle relay, as the group of William Moser, Kale Doeppke, McGreal and Finley finished eighth and earned one point. Central earned another two points with a seventh place mark in the 1600-meter distance medley relay with the team of Schroeder, Wilwert, Moser and Holst.

In the other relays, the Warriors took ninth in both the 4x100 and 800 spring medley, as well as 12th in the 4x400 and 4x800.

In the field events, the Warriors sent out McGreal and Fettkether in the discus, where they finished 21st and 24th, respectively.

“The athletes continue to get into better condition each week, and have greatly improved on their handoffs. Things we will work to improve on are starts out of blocks and more handoff improvement,” said coach Colten Ledbeter. “Being in the meat of the season with two meets a week for the next five weeks, we have had to adjust the practice schedule to allow for lighter days before meets, but still try to improve our conditioning and strength.”

“The athletes have been working very hard and have been improving in practice,” he added. “I am excited to see how they continue to perform at meets, especially as the weather gets nicer.”

The Warriors competed in the Decorah Relays on April 11, then will head to West Delaware on Thursday, April 14.
