Bulldog boys continue to excel in relays

Weather limited the MFL MarMac boys track and field team to just one meet last week, in the April 28 Clayton Ridge Boys Invitational.
The Bulldogs were also short-handed, with top sprinter Karter Decker and the 4x100 relay team of Decker, Wyatt Powell, Kaden Stocker and Cullen McShane competing at the Drake Relays.
Freshman Jacob Schellhorn turned in the top individual performance in Guttenberg, setting a personal best 4:59.99 time for first place in the 1600 meter run.
Other MFL MarMac distance runners included Tucker Ruff and Logan Ross, who were 10th and 15th, respectively, in the 800.
Cyrus Johnson led the Bulldogs’ sprint field with eighth and 12th place efforts in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Brandon Christofferson crossed the line 10th in the 100.
The MFL MarMac relay teams continued to excel, with second place times in both the 4x200 and 4x800. Christofferson, Carver Blietz-Bentien, Cyrus Johnson and Caleb Nordheim ran the 4x200 in 1:43.48, while Blietz-Bentien, Ruff, Schellhorn and Christofferson turned in a 9:28.34 mark in the 4x800. In the 4x100, Christofferson, Blietz-Bentien, Cyrus Johnson and Nordheim took third.
The 4x400 comprised of Callum Johnson, Izayah Streicher, Carter Stoddard and Ruff crossed the line fifth, as did the 440 shuttle hurdle squad of Carter Streicher, Ruff, Rylee Kugel and Stoddard. In the 800 sprint medley, C. Streicher, Cody Moses, Kugel and I. Streicher combined for eighth.
The field events included two top-five performances for Josh Reichard. A throw of 38 feet, 10.5 inches put him fourth in the shot put, while he placed fifth in the discus with a distance of 103 feet, 10.75 inches. Aiden Schoulte finished 12th in the shot and 13th in the discus.
The Bulldogs will compete at their home invitational next, on May 2, then head to Postville for the Upper Iowa Conference meet on May 5.
