Busy week for Bulldog golfers

The MFL MarMac girls golf team had a busy week, with conference meets against South Winneshiek and Postville as well as the competitive Guttenberg Girls Golf Invitational.
South Winn edged the Bulldogs 234-242 in the May 2 match-up at Tri City Golf Course near Luana. Warrior Ruthie Frana earned medalist honors with a 54, while MFL MarMac senior Lauren Haberichter snagged the runner up title with a season low 55. South Winn’s Annie Ondrashek tied with Bulldog Miranda Lang for third place, after both shot a 58.
A 63 from Mallory Lang and 66 by Mackenzie Bachman rounded out MFL MarMac’s varsity score. Clare Grau shot a 67 and Kaylee Nuehring a 78.
The Bulldogs faced a tough field at Guttenberg on May 3, placing fifth with a score of 492. Beckman Catholic’s 402 took the top spot, followed by East Buchanan at 431, Clayton Ridge at 432 and Edgewood-Colesburg at 443.
Beckman Catholic also had the top two individual golfers, with Maddie Schmitz and Shea Steffan shooting 93s over 18 holes. East Buc’s Ally Joyce was the only other golfer to shoot below a 100, coming in at 97.
Miranda Lang fielded MFL MarMac’s best score, tying for sixth at 105. Mallory Lang came in at 126, Haberichter at 130 and Bachman at 131.
The Bulldogs wrapped up the week May 5, falling to Postville 227-250 at Tri City Golf Course. A 49 from Pirate Kat Looney was the top score of the day, and Miranda Lang was runner up with a 56.
Other MFL MarMac varsity scores included a 63 by Mallory Lang, 65 by Bachman and 66 by Grau. Nuehring also had a good meet on the home course, shooting a season best 63, while Haberichter and Morgan Jacobson both finished at 70 and Olivia Martins at 71.
Next up for the Bulldogs is the Upper Iowa Conference meet on May 10, at South Winn Golf and Country Club in Calmar. Class 2A Regionals will be at Fox Ridge Golf Course, Dike, on May 13.
