The May 5 Upper Iowa Conference track and field meet was one to remember for MFL MarMac’s Cullen McShane.

The senior placed third in the discus, was the individual champion in both the shot put and 100 meter dash and also ran one leg of the Bulldogs’ first-place 4x100 meter relay.

The shot put was the highlight event for McShane, whose throw of 48 feet, 6 inches shattered the 46 foot, 11 inch school record set by Jerry Kruse in 1965. The winning throw was one of three he launched over 46 feet that night.

In the 100, McShane relied on a time of 11.15 seconds to edge South Winn’s Sam Conway, who crossed the line at 11.29.

Another Bulldog, sophomore Wyatt Powell, placed third with a time of 11.66 seconds. He also ran well in the 200, placing sixth with a mark of 24.26 seconds.

Callum Johnson and Hunter Kugel rounded out MFL MarMac’s sprint field, with seventh and 14th place efforts in the 400 meter dash.

Behind McShane, freshman Jacob Schellhorn had the best individual placing for the Bulldogs. A personal best 4:56.62 in the 1600 meter run put him just behind race winner Keaton Reimer from Clayton Ridge, who posted a time of 4:54.89.

Tucker Ruff had an  eighth-place performance in the 800 meter run, while Cody Moses finished 10th in the 3200.

The Bulldogs had no competitors in the 110 meter hurdles, but Johnson and Carter Streicher crossed the line a respective 11th and 14th in the 400 meter event.

The 4x100 was MFL MarMac’s top relay, with Powell, Stocker, Caleb Nordheim and McShane combining for a 45.09-second finish, cementing them in first ahead of Turkey Valley.

The team’s 4x200 and 4x800 relays placed third. Rylee Kugel, Cyrus Johnson, Izayah Streicher and Nordheim made up the 4x200 group, while the 4x800 included Carver Blietz-Bentien, Izayah Streicher, Ruff and Schellhorn.

In the 440 shuttle hurdle relay, Carter Streicher, Ruff, Rylee Kugel and Carter Stoddard raced to fourth place. The team of Rylee Kugel, Stocker, Nordheim and Callum Johnson was sixth in the sprint medley, while Stoddard, Izayah Streicher, Ruff and Callum Johnson were eighth in the 4x400.

In addition to his conference title performance in the shot put, McShane’s throw of 130 feet, 3 inches landed him in third place in the discus.

Josh Reichard and Aiden Schoulte also had strong showings in the throwing events, with Reichard’s 113 feet, 2 inches good for seventh in the discus. Schoulte’s distance of 40 feet, 4 inches placed him sixth in the shot put.

Additionally, Stocker leapt to third in the high jump thanks to a height of 5 feet, 4.25 inches, while Powell claimed fifth in the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 9 inches. Cyrus Johnson came in 12th in the long jump.

The Bulldogs totaled 93 points overall at the UIC meet, putting them fourth. South Winn took the title with 132 points, followed by North Fayette Valley at 130 and Clayton Ridge at 118.

Next on the schedule for MFL MarMac is the Class 2A state qualifying meet, which will be Thursday, May 12, at Osage.
