Emilie Ann (Urlaub) Lenth, 87,  of Garnavillo, passed away peacefully at the Guttenberg Care Center on the morning of May 30, 2022, after a month-long battle with cancer.

She is survived by her husband, John C. Lenth; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary (Kim) Lenth and Dave (Sarah McGee) Lenth, and daughter and son-in-law, Julie (John) Carver; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her four siblings, Fulvia Rust, Lee Urlaub, Mona Davis, and infant sister, Rosalyn Urlaub.

Emilie was born at home in George, Iowa to Leopold and Johannah (Locker) Urlaub on Jan. 26, 1935. She was baptized on April 11, 1935, and confirmed on May 16, 1948, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Medford, Wis. Emilie attended five schools during her elementary and high school years as her father served various calls as a Lutheran pastor in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. About a year after her mother’s death she came to live with her brother’s family (Rev. L. C. and Betty Urlaub) and finished her last three years of High School at Garnavillo Community School, graduating in 1953. She worked at the Thoma Dairy Bar in Garnavillo for about five years during high school and after graduating. Emilie and John Lenth were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garnavillo on Aug. 27, 1954. Their marriage endured for 67 years together living in the home they built in the 1950’s in Garnavillo. They lived in this home and raised their family there until moving to the Guttenberg Care Center on May 26 of this year. Emilie will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother, with our family now looking for who will fill her shoes as a great prayer warrior and the one who worried the most over her loved ones! She enjoyed small town, rural Iowa life and took part in many July 4th singing productions, served on the Garnavillo School Board for six years, and was a faithful active church member her entire life. While at St. Paul’s she participated in Choir and Luther League. After her marriage, while a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church for the rest of her life she served in the Women’s Groups, as a Sunday School teacher, and loved to sing in the choir.

Emilie is dearly missed by her husband, children and grandchildren, but peace and joy reside in us as she now celebrates with the Lord in her eternal dwelling place prepared by Him! We love you.
