Boscobel man charged with 7th offense OWI
A 50-year-old Boscobel man has been charged in Crawford County Circuit Court with one count of operating with a prohibited alcohol concentration (seventh offense). Brian Yahn has also been charged with obstructing an officer, attempting to flee or elude an officer, and second degree recklessly endangering safety.
Yahn faces up to a total of $70,000 in fines and 26 years and nine months in prison if convicted of all counts.
According to the criminal complaint, a Crawford County Sheriff’s deputy was advised by a citizen that a light-colored Ford sedan was driving recklessly, northbound on Highway 61.
The car was seen by the deputy traveling in excess of 80 miles per hour, the complaint said. The car was pulled over and Yahn was identified as the driver.
Yahn was subject to .02 prohibited alcohol concentration because of prior OWI convictions. Yahn refused to provide a preliminary breath sample, according to the complaint.
Yahn made a profane comment about being sent to prison and admitted that he had been drinking, the complaint said.
Yahn then sped away from the scene. The deputy gave chase. Yahn accelerated to speeds over 100 mph, the complaint said.
Another vehicle with four children inside had to swerve to avoid a head-on collision with Yahn’s vehicle, the complaint stated.
Yahn was taken into custody the next morning.
Yahn has been convicted of OWI in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2011, 2012 and 2014.
