The Clayton Ridge-Central baseball team endured a win-less week, in which they were out-scored 41-4. The War Eagles are currently mired in a nine-game losing streak and have an overall record of 2-13.

The week started with a June 6 doubleheader against conference leading Kee, who opened the first game with a 14-run first inning before adding two more in the fourth, prompting a 16-1 mercy rule victory.

The War Eagle offense managed just two hits, with Caden Helle providing the lone highlight in a fourth inning home run.

Working from the mound were Max Nuehring and Ashton Thiese, who gave up a combined 13 hits, including two home runs, and five walks. The Hawks struck out only once, while sending 22 hitters to the box.

Things went equally as bad in game two, as the Hawks pounded the CR-C pitching staff for five runs in the first, then added another in the second and four in the fourth inning. It was a 10-0 loss for the War Eagles.

The offense got one hit from Nate Meier but couldn’t get anything else working, as they struck out eight times.

The defense performed better, with just one error, and had an improved fielding percentage of .933, but even that wasn’t enough to silence the Kee bats.

Those bats put up eight hits and forced six walks, while striking out just four times. The War Eagles sent out three pitchers, including Caleb Helle, who gave up two hits, three walks and five earned runs. Braxton Bormann went 3.2 innings, allowing six hits, two walks and five earned runs, while striking out three, and Isaac Loan pitched a third of an inning, giving up one walk and striking out one.

The War Eagles lost their next game to Wapsie Valley, 10-0.

The offense managed three walks while striking out six times, but in 16 plate appearances, didn’t record a hit.

The defense held firm again with just two errors, but the pitching staff continued to struggle, as the combination of Kurt Ross and Colton Hoeger gave up 10 hits, six walks and eight earned runs.

The final game of the week, on June 9, was a much closer affair for the War Eagles, who took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the third. However, North Fayette Valley rallied for two runs in the bottom of the third and three more in the bottom of the fifth to secure a 5-3 victory.

CR-C has four games on tap this week, starting with a June 13 home doubleheader versus MFL MarMac. The War Eagles will welcome South Winneshiek on June 14, then cap the week off with a June 16 match-up against Postville.
