Imogene Irene Ihlenfeldt, 99, of Gurnee, Ill., formerly of Farmersburg, died Wednesday, July 27, 2022. She was born May 21, 1923, near Clayton Center in Clayton County, to Arno and Leona (Lenth) Glawe. She lived nearly all her life in the Clayton County area and attended rural Macklenburg grade school and graduated from Farmersburg High School. 

 

Imogene was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Clayton Center on Aug. 24, 1948, and was united in marriage to Ivon Ihlenfeldt at Clayton Center. A son, Harlan, was born to this union. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2018. They farmed together for most of their marriage near Farmersburg on the same farm Ivon moved to as a small child. They moved to a retirement apartment in Monona in 2011. Imogene moved to Prairie Maison Center in Prairie du Chien, Wis., in September 2020, and then to Bickford Assisted Living in Gurnee, Ill., due to health issues. She resided there until her peaceful death on the morning of July 27, 2022, at the age of 99. 

 

Imogene was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg. She enjoyed most any outdoor activity, especially doing her share of the farm work, gardening and keeping the yard neat to her high standards. Imogene enjoyed time with family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in her later years. Conversation with family and friends was a favorite way to spend her time.  

 

Imogene is survived by her son, Harlan, and daughter-in-law, Judy; four grandchildren, Todd Ihlenfeldt of Ames, Nicholas Ihlenfeldt of Davenport, Christopher (Jennifer) Ihlenfeldt of Kenosha, Wis., and Julie (Kathy) Ihlenfeldt of Berthoud, Colo.; two great-grandchildren, Kaley and Aubrey Ihlenfeldt; a niece, Deborah Neels of Clinton; and one nephew, Jerry (Deanna) Klinkenberg of Davenport. 

 

Imogene was preceded in death by her husband, Ivon; her parents, Arno and Leona; and her sister and brother-in-law, Leila and Richard Klinkenberg.

 

Interment will be private at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Clayton Center. 

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials to Imogene be directed to the general fund of St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, or to pediatric brain cancer research (www.thecurestartsnow.org). 

 

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service is helping the family with the arrangements.
