Ramona Bahls, 81, of Garnavillo died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022, at Hawkeye Care Center in Asbury surrounded by family.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 6, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, conducted by Rev. Gary Hatcher. Visitation was before services at the church.

Interment was at Garnavillo Community Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Garnavillo.

Ramona was born on Sept. 5, 1940, in Guttenberg, the daughter of Martin and Ellen (Petsche) Horstman.

Ramona attended school in Garnavillo where she graduated with the class of 1958. On April 3, 1961, Ramona was united in marriage with Scylvan Bahls at St. Paul church in Garnavillo and the couple was later blessed with three children. Ramona was a homemaker who spent all of her time raising her children and working on the family farm. She enjoyed being with family and friends, sewing, baking, and volunteering as the Sunday School secretary for 30 years and Vacation Bible School for numerous years and being otherwise active in the church, going on trips, and spending time with her flowers. Later in life, she loved attending sporting events, school concerts, and various other activities for her granddaughters. She was always there to lend a helping hand wherever needed and sew her family members anything they requested or wanted.

Ramona entered heaven leaving behind her three children, Michael (Tammy) Bahls, Christy (Lawrence) Phillips and Kimberly Bahls; three grandchildren, Tiffany (Jamie Beresford) Ramos, Tara (Tyler) Kennedy, Amanda Phillips; great-grandchildren, Jovi Ramos, Maia Ramos, Talan Kennedy and Talia Kennedy; sister, Shirley (Mark) Davies and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Ramona was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Scylvan in 2020; two brothers, Martin Horstman Jr. and James Horstman and one niece, Cynthia Kriesler. 

The family would like to say thank you to the staff at Hawkeye Care Center for the compassionate care they have given over the past two years and the hospice of Dubuque staff for their support over the past two weeks.
