Schellhorn wins third race of the season

Bulldogs Will Koether and Tucker Ruff both turned in personal best times at the South Winn Invitational.

MFL MarMac sophomore Jacob Schellhorn won his third cross country meet of the season at the Oct. 4 South Winneshiek Invitational.

 

Schellhorn turned in a time of 16:52, six seconds ahead of second-place finisher Nathan O’Neill of Waukon.

 

Fellow Bulldog runners Will Koether and Tucker Ruff both set personal best times at the race. Koether, a senior, crossed 32nd in 18:50.5, while sophomore Ruff was 34th at 18:50.9. Junior Sawyer Keehner placed 50th with a personal best 19:20, and sophomore Jaxon Millage finished in 20:32, for 76th.

 

The combined efforts put MFL MarMac fourth of nine teams with a score of 121. Waukon finished first at 35, followed by Decorah with 63 and Clayton Ridge with 92.

 

In the girls race, Bulldog freshman Cora Keehner continued to rack up medals, after placing 18th of 118 varsity runners. Her time was 22:04. Sophomore Evelyn Ruff and junior Clare Grau were 25th and 27th, respectively, thanks to times of 22:23 and 22:33. Freshman Mariah Moser crossed the line in 26:22, for 79th, and junior Kaylee Nuehring was right behind in her 80th. Senior Cadence Weber ran the course in a season best 29:16, which was good for 106th.

 

MFL MarMac scored 156 points, earning the  fifth spot out of nine teams. Host South Winn was first with 49 points, Decorah scored 53, Central 91 and Waukon 96.

 

This race was the Bulldogs’ final before the Upper Iowa Conference Meet. That will be held Thursday, Oct. 13, at the school’s home course, Tri City Golf Course in Luana.
