Downtown Prairie du Chien was bursting at the seams on Saturday, and a large part of that was due to ‘leaf lookers’ who also wanted to enjoy what the downtown has to offer. It is heading toward prime time for leaf looking in Prairie du Chien and the surrounding area. Above, the entrance to St. Feriole Island was very inviting to walkers, bicyclists, and motorists on a bright, sunshiny day when it appeared as if someone had taken out a paint brush and emptied their palette of the most vivid colors. According to the Travel Wisconsin Fall Color Report, last updated on Oct. 3, Prairie du Chien was at 50 percent, and the peak is predicted for the fourth week of October. Fall views can be enjoyed from the scenic overlooks in the area as well as many of the trails along the bluffs of the Mississippi River. Some area parks include La Riviere Park, Wyalusing State Park, Pikes Peak State Park, and Effigy Mounds National Monument. (Photo by Ted Pennekamp)
