Hannah Asche (left) and Jaydin Dettman were Central’s 38th and 39th runners to compete individually in the state cross country meet.

By Willis Patenaude, Times-Register

Central cross country coach Martha Bauder described the Oct. 28 state meet at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge as “one of the best days for running” against “the best talent in the state.”

This year, the Warriors sent two runners to compete against that talent, in senior Hannah Asche and junior Jaydin Dettman. According to Bauder, “both took advantage of the great day and ended their season with a good run for themselves.”

This marked Asche’s third run at state and Dettman’s second, and both runners finished ahead of the times they posted last year.

Asche finished 13 seconds faster than last season, at 21:22, and was 64th out of the 150 runners. Dettman was nearly a full minute faster than last year, her time of 21:33 good enough for 75th place.

Asche and Dettman were Central’s 38th and 39th runners to qualify individually for the state meet. This season marked the 11th straight—and the 18th time in the past 19 years—that Central was represented in the girls state meet.

The Warriors will head into next season without Asche as well as several other seniors, including Delaney Scherf, Eva Embretson, Rebecca Suhr and Haley Frieden.

Bauder noted the group’s “outstanding talent, leadership and dedication to our program,” while adding, “those are big shoes for our team to fill.”

The expectations remain high for Dettman, who will return along with Madylen Gregerson, Taylor Moser, Ashlyn Scherf, Reese Berns, Coral Rork, Aspen Rork, Brooke Tieden, Alexis Thiese and Layla Embretson.
