JoAnn Faye Ishman, 91, of Elkader, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2022, at MercyOne Hospital in Elkader. She was born in rural Eldorado on July 5, 1931, to Raymond Joseph and Dorothy Ruth (Huntsberger) Rothmeyer. She graduated from West Union High School in 1949. She worked as a secretary for attorneys Esty and Esty and was the deputy clerk of court of Fayette County. In August 1960, she purchased the jewelry store in Elkader with her husband Dale and operated the business for nearly 60 years.

 

On June 24, 1951, JoAnn was united in marriage to Dale Elbert Ishman at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Eldorado. Two children were born to this union.

 

JoAnn loved traveling, camping and sewing. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkader.

 

Survivors include her daughter, Carlene Renee (Tom) Carmicheal of Depoe Bay, Ore.; son, Craig Gene (Vicki) Ishman of Eagan, Minn; two grandsons, Colin and Luke Ishman; and many friends.

 

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale and sister Delphine Durscher.

 

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, at Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader, and one hour before service time at the church on Saturday.

 

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkader, with Pastor Kate Johnson officiating.

 

Interment will be at East Side Cemetery, Elkader.

 

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elkader is assisting the family.
